Tropical Storm Omais To Stay East Of Japan

Kansas City, August 7 (World Weather Inc.) – Tropical Storm Omais formed over open water in the western Pacific Ocean late last week and has moved toward Japan during the weekend. However, the storm will turn to the east before reaching close enough to the nation for any serious impact.
At 0900 GMT today, the center of the storm was located 474 miles southeast of Yokosuka, Japan at 30.3 north, 146.0 east moving north northwesterly at 14 mph. The storm’s maximum sustained wind speed was reaching 52 mph with gusts to 63 mph. Tropical storm force wind (greater than 39 mph) was occurring out 285 miles from the storm center.
No change in the intensity of Tropical Storm Omais is expected through the next couple of days, but as the system moves to higher latitudes it will lose strength and a turn to the northeast is expected. The anticipated turn will begin Monday and should prevent the storm from directly impacting any part of Honshu or Hokkaido, Japan. The storm will remain too far from the coast to bring significant wind, rain or damaging seas to the region.
