Tropical Storm Newton Dissipates; Impressive Arizona Rainfall

Kansas City, September 8 (World Weather Inc.) – Tropical Storm Newton dissipated over the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico Wednesday. However, the storm left behind some impressive rain totals in parts of Arizona.

An assessment of the storm’s impact on Mexico and Arizona will take place over the next few days. Preliminary information suggests permanent crop damage may have been limited to a few areas in west-central Sonora, Mexico where the strongest wind and greatest rainfall resulted. Cotton quality declines may have been the greatest impact in the southwestern U.S. crop areas.
Satellite imagery showed most of the moisture from the storm abating from Arizona and New Mexico this morning. However, the atmosphere is becoming well charged with moisture in central and southern Kansas where it will be condensed out as a frontal boundary begins to interact with the tropical moisture tonight and Friday. Rainfall from south-central Kansas to Indiana and Ohio will range from 1.00 to 3.00 inches with Kansas and Missouri wettest. The faster than expected dispersion of the moisture from the dissipated tropical cyclone has reduced some of the rainfall that was predicted for the region Wednesday.
