Frost, Light Freezes in Upper U.S. Midwest This Morning

Kansas City, September 14 (World Weather Inc.) – Frost and a few light freezes occurred this morning in the upper U.S. Midwest, but the impact on crops was rather limited. Extreme lows slipped to 30 degrees Fahrenheit through 0600 CDT today at Fosston and Bemidji, Minn. while several other extremes of 31 to 32 occurred across north-central and central portions of Minnesota reaching as far south as the Little Falls/Morris area. Soft frost occurred in many surrounding areas and in parts of central and eastern North Dakota.
Most of the cold was not intensive enough to end the growing season, but upper canopy leaves of some crops will be damaged by the frost and light freezes. The cool conditions in the northern Plains and upper Midwest over the past couple of nights will help expedite crop maturation, but the region needs to be dry for a while and additional rain may slow the drying process and delay some fieldwork.
