Argentina Topsoil Returns To Favorable Level

Kansas City, February (World Weather Inc.) – Weekend precipitation has bolstered topsoil conditions in Argentina back to a much more favorable level after a couple of dry and warm weeks depleted moisture from the region. A little too much rain fell in central Buenos Aires during the weekend and last week, but the area impacted by excessive moisture and flooding is much smaller than that which occurred last month. A little damage to crops might have occurred during the weekend, but most of the changes in Argentina will be interpreted as extremely beneficial.
Rain was noted a couple of times in southern Argentina during the past week, but the heart of the production region was not significantly impacted with moisture until the weekend. Nearly two weeks of dry and warm weather had occurred and the topsoil was rated short to very short of moisture late last week. The weekend 
precipitation event consisted of 0.670 to 1.14 inches of rain across central parts of the nation, but when that moisture was added to that which fell last week it was enough to raise topsoil moisture back to adequate levels – at least for a little while.
During the past week one area stands out as being too wet and that area is central Buenos Aires. Rainfall in the region varied from 3.50 to more than 10.00 inches. Flooding was suspected during the weekend when much of that rain fell and the region needs to dry down now for a while to assure a more serious flood event and damage to crops does not come along a little later this month.
Weather forecasts for the coming week to ten days are quite supportive for further improvements in Argentina. The heavy rainfall areas in the south during the weekend will not see much significant moisture again for at least a week and perhaps ten days. Crop areas to the north will receive additional rain often enough that dryness 
lingering in parts of Santiago del Estero, Chaco, Salta and neighboring areas would be further reduced while some other areas in the north might become a little too wet for a while.
