Depression Calvin To Produce More Rain In South Mexico

Kansas City, June 13 (World Weather Inc.) – Tropical depression Calvin continues to have influence on southern Mexico producing heavy rain across portions of Oaxaca where rainy weather has been a frequent occurrence in recent weeks. The storm is weak and will move inland later 
today, but its impact on crop areas will be low outside of its heavy rainfall.
At 1000 GMT today, the center of the storm was located immediately southeast of the central Oaxaca Coast of Mexico at 16.4 north, 96.4 west. Movement was northwesterly at 6 mph and the maximum sustained wind speed near the storm center was around 35 mph.
Additional weakening was expected today while the storm drifts closer to the coast. The system may dissipate as a significant tropical cyclone before reaching the coast, but remnants of the storm will spread moderate to heavy rainfall northward along western portions of the Oaxaca coast and then along the Guerrero coast. Rainfall of 3.00 to more than 6.00 inches will occur today and Wednesday as the system’s remnants continue moving northwesterly.
Calvin’s remains will be closely monitored for possible regeneration to a tropical depression or greater later this week, but its close proximity to the southwest coast of Mexico will hinder further development.
The storm’s heavy rain has already caused some flooding in Oaxaca and additional rain may expand flooding today and Wednesday. The state was recently impacted by Tropical Storm Beatriz which moved across southern Mexico to the southern Gulf of Campeche earlier this month. No damage to the region’s corn, sugarcane or coffee is expected.
