China Crops Favorably Moist For Late Season Growth

Kansas City, September 4 (World Weather Inc.) – Timely rain was reported in the North China Plain and Northeastern China during the past week. The rain helped bolster soil moisture and promoted a good environment for most crops. Periods of rain will continue in northern China during the next seven days that should continue to promote a mostly good environment for the crops. Drier weather will be needed later in the month once a majority of the crops are mature or begin to mature. Many areas in central China were dry during the past week while southern China reported significant rain. Dry weather is needed in the south to firm up the topsoil and promote a better environment for maturation and harvesting.
Southern China was the wettest production region during the past week. Rain totals for the seven day period ending this morning for areas near and south of a line from Fujian through Guangxi ranged from 2.00 to 6.85 inches with locally greater amounts. Areas near and north of a line from northern Jiangsu through Shaanxi reported 0.50 to 2.00 inches of rain most often with locally greater amounts in Shandong and Hebei. Northeastern China also received 0.50 to 2.00 inches of rain most often with drier pockets in Liaoning and wetter pockets for areas near the coast in Jilin and Heilongjiang. Zhejiang and much of central and southern Jiangsu through Sichuan received little or no rain.
Soil moisture is excessively wet in southern China due to the heavy rain during the past week. Areas from Anhui through Sichuan have short topsoil moisture while subsoil moisture is rated favorably in most areas. The North China Plain and Northeastern China has mostly adequate soil moisture. Portions of Shandong and Hebei are excessively wet in the topsoil.
China soil and crop conditions are rated quite favorably and little change was expected over the next two weeks. Not only will summer crops have enough moisture to continue filling and maturing, but there should be sufficient soil moisture to support wheat planting a little later this month. Just another timely rain event or two late this month is about all that is needed to support rapeseed planting. Receiving moisture does not seem to be a problem right now, but it will be important for sufficient drying to occur later this month so that fieldwork can advance as well as possible.
