Tropical Storm Kate to Become Hurricane On Way Out to Sea

Kansas City, November 10 (World Weather Inc.) – Tropical Storm Kate will continue to strengthen today into Wednesday. The system will intensify into a relatively weak hurricane as it passes to the northwest of Bermuda tonight. The storm system will remain far enough out from Bermuda that no major impacts will occur there as well. The system will then weaken Thursday into Friday as it travels into the northern Atlantic Ocean without having a significant impact on U.S. coastal areas.
At 1000 EST Tropical Storm Kate was located near 30.2 north, 74.7 west which is approximately 350 miles south of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina or 600 miles west of Bermuda. Movement was northeast near 21 mph and this general direction will continue today with an acceleration in forward speed. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 70 mph with higher gusts. Tropical storm force winds (39-73 mph) were reaching out 80 miles from the center of the storm.
Tropical Storm Kate strengthened and moved northward away from the Bahamas overnight. Resulting rainfall was light to locally moderate Monday into Monday night over central and northern portions of the Bahamas. The tropical system has turned to the northeast and will remain well off the coast of the United States. The storm system will continue to track to the northeastward through the remainder of the week into the northern Atlantic. The system will pass to the northwest of Bermuda tonight as a relatively weak Hurricane. However, the system will be far enough out from the island that some outer bands associated with the system may induce some rain, but no significant direct impacts will occur.
The tropical weather system will weaken late Wednesday into Friday as the storm system begins to interact with a mid-latitude cyclone. The storm system will not make landfall over any major landform through Friday.
